Even today, Ukraine is fielding female infantry. Many militia movements in the Middle East feature women (minus the extreme ones).
Female combatants have been notable since WW2, appearing sparsely across many branches of the armed forces. In an old press event for Tarkov, one of their employees slipped up and explained the reason there's no female combatants in Tarkov is because "women can't handle the levels of stress that men can" (despite women statistically having better emotional intelligence than men.) and therefore it "wouldn't make sense" for them to be on the streets of Tarkov if it were reality. The more boring reason is because BSG is a company staffed 95% by males from the backwards ass dystopia of Russia who can't imagine a woman overpowering a man. They insist that this is a restraint on resources, not a reflection of any disrespect to female servicewomen. The official company justification is that female characters will require too much effort and time to implement, from rigging a new animation skeleton, to ensuring all armour/equipment fits their stature correctly, and having complete voice acting done.
